The Max/MSP stuff brings a huge amount of power and flexibility and is very nicely integrated into Live itself. Ableton's is a much clearer, holistic vision where everything works integrates and works nicely together. Of course, Cubase has many more features, but Steiny's overall approach to design is "bolt on more stuff". Minor one: the general user experience isn't as slick as Ableton. Automating unquantized arpeggiation rate is a basic basic thing. You can't automate certain MIDI insert parameters. You can't automate audio clip parameters such as grain size in Cubase. There are third party solutions but none are as good as either Racks or Patcher. In theory, you can do the same thing in Cubase the long hand/manual way, but it's frankly is laughable in comparison. Not OP, but here's my list of things missing:Īn equivalent to Ableton's Racks or FL Studio's Patcher.
